Grandma, what big feet you have...

Now that snow season is quietly giving way to mud season, the pastures are beginning to sprout with the first tender shoots of grass. This is not lost on the deer and elk, which are beginning to reappear in increasing numbers. Unfortunately, due to the efforts of some misguided tree huggers, none of whom has to deal with them, Idaho now has a significant population of non-native Canadian wolves. These wolves are more aggressive than the native species, and have killed significant numbers of elk in the state. It has become such a problem here that the same idiots who brought them here are now having to kill them off. How's that for intelligent use of your tax dollars? If you don't think I'm being fair in my approach to the issue, perhaps we can invite the tree huggers to drop off a dozen or so of these killing machines in your neighborhood. We'll see how spiritual you feel then.
OK, rant off. Just be aware that it's a serious problem in cattle and sheep country, especially now during calving season.
The tracks pictured above were located in the pasture right next to where my shop will be built. This is less than 200 yards from the house site. This is one big wolf. I hope I will be able to see it one of these days.
There is still an enormous amount of water coming up out of the ground, so we won't be doing any dirt work for a while. Tomorrow I will begin building a one-mile barbed wire fence along my southern property line, so I will be able to graze cattle this spring. The terrain varies from almost vertical to practically flat, so it will be quite a challenge.
