Spring is a wonderful time of year here in Ola. The pastures are full of calves and colts, the robin in our front yard is raising three babies, and wildlife is everywhere - sometimes where it isn't welcomed. I walked out of my office and into the garage. This rattlesnake was on my garage floor about three feet from me. I'm going to think twice about casually walking into the garage in my bare feet from now on. So far we have seen quite a variety of wildlife on the property: Deer, elk, weasels, rockchucks, ground squirrels, quail, Hungarian partridge, pheasants, several varieties of snakes, lizards, turkeys, rabbits, coyotes, lots of mice, eagles and hawks. Our neighbors in High Valley had to have the Dept. of Fish & Game trap a marauding black bear last night that was killing their livestock. We have seen tracks of wolves and cougars as well.
This is the calm before the storm. If all goes according to plan (when was the last time that happened?), we will begin building the shop next month. Once that begins, it will be long days and lots of hard work.
