Like a great ship preparing to leave the pier, our project is finally beginning to slowly move. The dirtwork has been done for both the house and the shop. The forms for the concrete footings for the steel shop building are now in place, and the initial concrete pour is scheduled for this Friday. This is a critical stage, since the bolts that anchor the steel frame of the shop will be placed, and there is literally no margin for error. I am fortunate to have an excellent concrete contractor who is very meticulous. Once the footings are poured and set, I will level and prepare the pad for a monolithic pour of the rest of the foundation and the shop floor. The prep work will include the placement of floor drains and plumbing and electrical conduit.
We also had the electric company install a meter and connect the power. This week I will have the well pump programmed, giving us both water and electricity at the jobsite. The porta potty will be delivered next week, making the boys at OSHA happy.
We are excited to finally see some tangible progress being made.
